Dr Ken Amor (BSc Reading, MSc Leeds, DPhil Oxon) is a stipendiary lecturer in Earth Sciences. His academic interests include geochemistry, sedimentology, stratigraphy and the physical and chemical processes of large meteorite impacts and their possible influence on biotic extinctions in the geological record. Many of these topics are encompassed by his development of chromium isotope stratigraphy and its dual function as an environmental palaeo-redox indicator and as a tracer of meteoritic material. Dr Amor's current research projects include the recently discovered remnants of a large meteorite impact in north-west Scotland which occurred about 1.2 billion years ago (Amor et al., 2008). He currently co-organises the weekly seminar series in the Earth Sciences department.
