Professor Steve Rayner is the James Martin Professor of Science and Civilization and Director of the Institute for Science, Innovation and Society (InSIS) in the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography at Oxford University from where he also co-directs the Oxford Programme for the Future of Cities, the Oxford Martin Programme on Resource Stewardship and the Oxford Geoengineering Programme. He is a Professorial Fellow of Keble College. He is also Honorary Professor of Climate Change and Society at the University of Copenhagen and Senior Fellow at the Breakthrough Institute of Oakland, California. Professor Rayner has previously held senior research positions in two US National Laboratories and has taught at leading US universities. His current research focuses on three related areas; these are the future of cities, alternative policy frameworks for climate change, and the emergence of novel technologies, especially climate geoengineering.
